Phones and tablets

Your phone is the device you actually work from. These are the four things worth setting up before you need them.

Use your phone as a hotspot

When the office internet is down or you are working from a listing, your phone can share its connection.

  • iPhone — Settings, then Personal Hotspot. Turn on Allow Others to Join and note the Wi-Fi password shown there.
  • Android — Settings, then Network & internet, then Hotspot & tethering.

Hotspot use counts against your mobile data. Check your plan before you make a habit of it.

Text from your computer

Faster than picking your phone up between calls, and you can paste addresses and MLS numbers straight in.

  • iPhone — Messages is already on your Mac if you are signed in to the same Apple Account. On a Windows computer use Phone Link.
  • Android — open messages.google.com/web on your computer, then in the Messages app on your phone choose Device pairing and scan the QR code.

Find, lock or erase a lost device

Set this up now, not after you lose it. A phone with listing photos, client contacts and your email on it is worth more to you than the hardware.

iPhone and iPad — Settings, tap your name, then Find My, then Find My iPhone, and turn it on. To locate it later, sign in at icloud.com/find from any browser.

Android — Find Hub is on by default. To locate it later, go to google.com/android/find.

Either way you can make the device play a sound, lock it with a message and phone number on screen, or erase it entirely. Erase is final and stops you locating it afterwards, so try locking first.

If the device is genuinely gone: erase it, change your passwords, and tell the helpdesk on 920-993-4515 so we can look at anything it had access to.

Factory reset an iPhone or iPad

Before you sell, trade in or hand back a device.

  1. Back up anything you want to keep.
  2. Settings, then General, then Transfer or Reset iPhone.
  3. Choose Erase All Content and Settings.

Sign out of your Apple Account first, or Activation Lock will leave the device unusable for the next person.
