Buying equipment

Agents buy their own equipment, so this is guidance rather than a catalogue. Specific models go out of date within months; these are the things that actually matter when you choose.

Computers

• 16GB of memory is the number that matters most. 8GB will feel slow within a year with a browser full of MLS tabs.
• A solid state drive, not a spinning hard disk. Any current machine will have one; check if you are buying used.
• Windows 11 Home or Pro is fine. Avoid machines sold in S Mode unless you are willing to switch out of it, because it blocks Chrome.
• A Mac works well with everything we use. There is no advantage either way.

Cameras

Most listing photos are taken by a professional. If you shoot your own:

• A wide lens matters more than megapixels — interiors are cramped.
• A tripod matters more than the camera.
• A recent phone is genuinely good enough for social posts and price-drop updates.

Headsets

You will spend hours on calls. Buy a headset with a boom microphone rather than earbuds, and get one that pairs with both your computer and your phone.

Phones and tablets

Any current iPhone or Android will run everything we use. Buy enough storage that you are not deleting photos on a listing appointment — 128GB is a sensible floor.

Ask the helpdesk before buying if you are unsure. It is much easier than returning something that will not work with our systems.
