Print from a phone or tablet

Every office runs a Sharp or a Konica Minolta copier. Both have a free app that prints straight from your phone. The address is the same everywhere: printer.arpa, which resolves to the master unit at whichever office you are connected to.

You have to be on the office network. Mobile printing will not work over guest Wi‑Fi, over cellular, or from home. If the app cannot find the copier, that is almost always why.

Before you start

Your copier code is a zero followed by the last four digits of your cell phone number — so 555‑0142 gives you 00142. It is the same code you use at the copier panel and in the desktop driver. If it does not work, call the helpdesk on 920-993-4515 rather than guessing.

Look at the badge on the front of the machine to see which app you need.

The steps below are identical on iPhone and Android — Sharpdesk Mobile uses the same menu names on both.

Step 1) Install Sharpdesk Mobile and open it. Accept the licence agreement the first time it runs.

Step 2) Add the copier. Tap Settings > Printer/Scanner Settings.

Standing in the office on the office Wi‑Fi, Find Printers/Scanners will discover the machine on its own. To set it up permanently, tap Add Manually instead and fill in:

  • Name — your office, for example Green Bay Sharp or Neenah Sharp
  • IP Addressprinter.arpa. This field is required. Despite the name it takes a hostname, and printer.arpa is what you want, not a numeric address — it follows you between offices, so you only ever need this one entry.
  • Port Number — leave it at 21, the default. Only change it if you have turned on Use Raw Port in Application Settings, in which case it is 9100.
  • Set as Default Printer/Scanner — turn this on so you are not picking the copier every time.

Tap Save.

Step 3) Set your copier code. Go to Settings > User Settings, choose Use User Number for authentication, and enter your copier code in User Number. Tap Save.

Without this the copier does not know whose job it is, and you will not be able to release it at the machine.

Step 4) Print. Open the document in the app and check two settings before you send it:

  • Color Mode — Auto, Color or Grayscale.
  • Print Release — turn this on.

Tap Print, then OK at the "Do you want to Print?" prompt.

Print Release holds the job instead of firing it straight out. Walk up to any copier in the office, log in with your user number, and release it there — which is what stops your paperwork sitting in a tray mixed in with everyone else's.

If Print Release is greyed out, check whether you have Retention (Hold Only) switched on for the job. The two cannot both be used at once — setting one disables the other.

Sharp's own documentation is the Sharpdesk Mobile V2.4 operation manual, published for iOS and for Android.

Printing MLS spec sheets from your phone

The reliable way is to send the sheet to yourself as a PDF first, rather than fighting the MLS print dialog on a small screen.

  1. Log in to the MLS. On Paragon, use the desktop version if you can.
  2. Run your property search and select the properties you want.
  3. Click Email, choose Attachment (PDF), and email it to yourself. The full version of Paragon blind-copies you automatically.
  4. Open the mail on your phone and open the PDF.
  5. Share the PDF into the printing app — on iPhone use the share button; on Android you may need Open with and then pick the app, rather than the plain share arrow.
  6. Set the colour mode, turn on print release, and print.

It is not working

  • The app cannot find the copier. You are almost certainly on guest Wi‑Fi or on cellular. Reconnect to the office network.
  • **printer.arpa will not resolve.** Open it in a browser. If the page does not load, it is the network, not the app.
  • The job never comes out. If print release is on, the job is waiting for you at the machine. Log in at the copier panel and look for it.
  • The copier rejects the job. Your copier code is probably missing or wrong — check it against a zero plus the last four of your cell number.
  • Still stuck? Call the helpdesk on 920-993-4515, or see printing and copiers for driver installs and lockups.
